17 pounds seems a little heavy for a reel, I imagine the balance would be off but I'm no expert.

Blimey, I panicked when you swapped over the full fly line in the river. I may try that myself (NOT!!).

Also have a look at their flylines !! I bought one thinking at £11 it will be a cheap line ok for using for mullet or bass in the sea and what arrived was a really good mid quality line that I’m now using on my trout rod. I’m amazed at the quality for the money. I understand the need to support local tackle shops but big mail order firms killed most shops ages ago !

I've the same reel in 5/6 size about two years, £13 delivered from ebay, at least 40 stillwater trips, without dramas, feels a little tinny and drags not the smoothest but superb bang for buck. I also have a £25 Airflo airtec that has a lovely drag and solid feel, plenty trout and Carp to high doubles on that one
    Great Video 👍

Sorry but why should we feel compelled to buy at a local shop?? They aren't family and we don't owe them anything. Lots of people have not got that much money and if they can get a quality reel for 20 quid without even leaving their sofa, why the hell wouldn't they?? We don't need tackle shops……we can learn fishing from videos on YouTube anyway. That's the blunt truth.

That’s kinda crap to toss in, everyone should go out and buy 20 of them, it’s perfect proof that the market is held by the balls with a few companies on top charging way to much for their products, and that’s just the bottom dollar reel China can make, everything is already made in China and stuff “made in America” doesn’t cost that much to produce. I would rather buy a bakers dozen of these than go out and drop 500 on a “mid range” orvis reel

i like what you said about supporting local businesses however i dont have a local fly shop and i have vowed to spend as little money in my local coarse shop as possible due to the owner being a mardy get lol. might have to get myself one of these reels, im still very new to fly fishing so i could always upgrade in the future

Its not a 17 quid reel, its a 25quid reel due to postage, something often overlooked when buying from e bay/amazon etc. Glad you raised the issue of the local tackle shop-something I was going to mention myself. e bay etc cannot: sort you out quickly if you have a problem with a reel etc, can't let you try the reel on your rods to check the fit and balance, often don't sell additional spools, can't tell you what local waters are fishing well or not, advise you where to fish for particular species etc. Example: there is (or used to be) a tiny tackle shop in Bakewell, the two lads in there had lots of local knowledge about fishing for wild fish by paying the farmer 5quid, free fishing stretches etc, plus they sold lots of those small tools/gadgets/bits of kit that made life easier on the water. In my department (county) there is only one surviving privately owned tackle shop left-use em or lose em. You can't stop off at e bay and blether about the one that got away or get the news that Smithy just caught a 40lb pike on single maggot pole fishing.

Really like this review, for me the retaining nut not being the captured type would be another worry. As you say, the tackle shops are disappearing quickly, especially those that have fly fishing tackle, most are either match or carp tackle suppliers.

This one looks pretty similar to the maxcatch ones on aliexpress,
If it holds up that well I might consider"upgrading" cause the cheap click pawl I got from my local tackle shop
it's well, not the best, has play in it, besides being a small arbor one.
