A female threaded bearing sleeve, enlayed in the drag knob would work great

It was hard to watch you sanding the knob with the dremel tool with the dust going toward you. Did you do that for the camera? 😀

Just a suggestion, but where the line meets the bail should be free spinning, otherwise the line is going to burn into the roller, especially when pulling out line with the drag. Looking amazing so far, love your stuff!

For some reason I wasn't alerted to this video just an fyi. I have the bell on. Also once again I'd love to see a spearing decoy in a pumpkinseed or perch pattern.

You could possibly use magnets for the bail retraction.

Tip for wood turning, which you probably should have followed for the bail piece. Run the grain longways. You’ll get a much stronger piece.

I'm not trying to sound like I'm blowing smoke up your ass but , have you ever had your IQ tested ? I swear you're a genius the way you can visualize these things and put them to paper then make them is crazy ! Like most of us have a basic or a good idea how a spinning reel works but I think very few people could actually design and build one that would even look like it would work much less make the complicated parts that make up the reel and makes it work . I really think if you had unlimited access to tools and material you could probably build a rocket that could get you to Mars and back safely in one piece like for real it amazes me how you do some of this stuff with wood and a few tools .

On the very last shot you showed the oscillating motion… the drag knob has to move with the spool…or it just wont work…

The earliest successful oscillating system I know of is in the old Mitchell 300s, weird system but perhaps worth a look

You may consider the really early method of making gears. They were simply wheels with holes in them in which pegs were driven.
They would be quite pretty if made from brass with brass pegs soldered into them as gear teeth.
They would also be a lot easier to fabricate by hand.
